Parking and the skywalk: the most useful thing on the property in January

Free covered parking, a skywalk and an elevator. In Winnipeg's winter this is the amenity that earns its keep.

Illustration, not a photograph of the hotel

I have said elsewhere that the hallway is the point of this hotel. The parkade is the start of that hallway.

Casino parkadeFree, with “convenient access to the Canad Inns Hotel” (Casinos of Winnipeg).
Event Centre parking900 covered stalls free to attendees, plus overflow outdoor parking.
ConnectionAttached parkade skywalk and elevator access to the venue.
Accessible parkingThe casino lists handicap parking among its accessibility services.
Hotel's own parking termsNot published on the hotel page; AAA lists parking as on-site.

How I'd arrive

  1. Drive in from Lagimodière Boulevard along Regent Avenue.
  2. Use the covered parkade rather than the outdoor lot, especially if snow is forecast overnight.
  3. Take the elevator and skywalk into the building; follow the signs for the hotel.
  4. If you have heavy luggage or a wheelchair user in the party, ask at the casino entrance for help — staff list door assistance among the services they offer on request.

Why it matters in winter

Snow clearing, frozen windshields and a walk across an exposed lot are what turn a short city break into an ordeal in Winnipeg. A covered stall removes most of that. You come out in the morning to a car that isn't buried.

The city's January mean temperature sits around −16.4 °C, by the normals quoted on Wikipedia. In those conditions, a skywalk is a piece of infrastructure, not a nicety.

Why it matters in summer

Less, but not nothing. A covered stall keeps the car out of a July afternoon sun, and the summer thunderstorms that Wikipedia describes as very common are easier to sit out under concrete.

On show nights

With 1,300 seats in the hall and 900 covered stalls, the parkade will be busy on a sold-out night. Arrive early, park, and spend the waiting time at dinner rather than circling. If you're staying at the hotel, park once and leave the car until checkout.

What I don't know

Whether hotel guests have any reserved area, whether the parkade has plug-ins for block heaters, and whether there's a height limit for vans. None of it is published. Ask the desk in the request form and we'll find out.

Planning a night on Regent Avenue?

Tell the desk your dates and it will come back with what the hotel has open and what it costs that week — by email, usually within a business day. You decide after that; there is no deposit and no card number on this site.

When a request turns into a stay, the hotel or the booking partner pays us a commission; your rate is the same. Our business model · full request page

Our booking desk checks availability with the hotel or a booking partner and answers by email. This is a request, not a reservation.

No card is asked for and nothing is reserved yet. If the stay goes ahead, the hotel or a booking partner pays this site a commission — you pay the hotel's own rate. How that works.

Thank you — your request reached the desk. Expect an email reply (usually within a business day) with what the hotel has for your dates and the current rate. Nothing is booked until you confirm.
