A room on Regent Avenue, in deep winter and high summer

I write this guide about one building. Strictly, two buildings joined together: a hotel run by Canad Inns at 1415 Regent Avenue West, and Club Regent Casino next door at number 1425, which belongs to Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and holds the Club Regent Event Centre. The hotel describes itself as "connected directly" to the casino, with "direct indoor access". In Winnipeg that sentence matters more than it would in most cities.

This is not the hotel's site. I don't take bookings for Canad Inns and I am not paid by them to write anything. What I do is read what the hotel, the casino, the city and the province publish, check it against itself, and turn it into something a visitor can plan with. Where a fact comes from a secondary source — AAA, Wikipedia — I say so in the sentence.

Why two seasons? Because Winnipeg is two different cities. The climate normals quoted on Wikipedia put the January mean around −16.4 °C and the July mean at 19.7 °C. A hotel that is fine in July can be a trial in January if the car is outside and the show is across a parking lot. This one was planned around the cold, whether or not anyone said so out loud.

  The hotel is at 1415 Regent Avenue West; the casino and Event Centre are next door at 1425, reached indoors.

  The Club Regent Event Centre opened in 2014 and seats 1,300; it can also be cleared for a standing floor.

  Aaltos, 7 am to 9 pm

  The hotel's own restaurant runs a buffet calendar: Thursday ribs, Friday surf and turf, Sunday turkey.

• Winter

  Covered parking, a skywalk

  The Event Centre lists 900 covered stalls free to attendees, with a skywalk and elevator into the building.

• Rooms

  Smoke-free throughout

  Canad Inns calls the hotel a 100% smoke-free environment, guest rooms included; the casino is smoke-free too.

Two seasons on one avenue

Winter. The appeal is that you hardly need to go outside. Park under cover, take the skywalk, eat at Aaltos, walk to your seat for an Abba tribute or a country double bill, and be back in the room without zipping your coat. If you do want the cold, the Nestaweya River Trail at The Forks can stretch up to 10 km in a good season, and Festival du Voyageur has announced 12 to 21 February 2027 for its next edition (Whittier Park hosted the 2026 one). Summer. Winnipeg is, by the sunshine figures Wikipedia cites, the second-sunniest city in Canada. The hotel is then a practical east-end base: the Winnipeg Folk Festival is out at Birds Hill Provincial Park from 8 to 11 July 2027, and the city's riverside at The Forks is a drive away. The official booking engine lists four room types and nothing else about them — no square footage, no views. I have given each one its own page with what is known and what you should ask.

My short verdict

Book it for a show at the Event Centre, for a winter weekend when you want everything indoors, or as a base on the east side of the city. Don't book it expecting a pool or a spa — neither is published — or a downtown address. The rooms are, in AAA's word, "modest". The value of the place is the corridor between your room, the restaurant and the stage. The longer argument is on the verdict page.

Club Regent Casino and several of its lounges are for adults only: 18+ with valid photo ID in Manitoba. The hotel, Aaltos and most Event Centre shows labelled "all ages" are open to families. Our guide is about the stay; it does not encourage anyone to gamble.

Where it is

Regent Avenue West in Transcona, the old railway town that became part of Winnipeg in 1972. From the airport, the hotel's own directions take you round the Perimeter Highway to Lagimodière Boulevard and east along Regent.
