My verdict: book it for the hallway, not the view
What the Club Regent Casino Hotel does well, what it doesn't publish, and who I would send there.
Illustration, not a photograph of the hotel
I don't give stars. A number would suggest I had measured something I haven't. What I can give is a judgement built from what the hotel and its neighbours publish, laid out so you can disagree with me on the facts.
What the place is
A mid-range hotel of about 146 rooms on six floors — the count comes from AAA and Wikipedia; Canad Inns itself does not print one — with interior corridors and a 100% smoke-free policy. It is joined to a provincially owned casino that opened in 1993 (Wikipedia again) and to a modern 1,300-seat hall that opened in 2014. The restaurant, Aaltos, is the hotel's; the bars and the ice cream counter belong to the casino side.
Where it is strong
- The indoor route. Hotel, restaurant, casino, Event Centre and parkade are linked. In a city where, by the climate figures Wikipedia cites, about twelve days a year bring a wind chill below −40, that is not a small thing.
- The hall. 1,300 seats in a room the venue describes as having an unobstructed view from every seat. Touring country acts, tribute shows and comedy come through regularly — eight dates between 6 November and 13 December 2026 at the time of writing.
- Food that keeps hours. Aaltos is open 7 am to 9 pm every day, with a weekly buffet rota; Toukies on the casino side serves until midnight on weeknights and 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Parking. Covered, free for Event Centre attendees, attached by skywalk.
Where it is weak
- No pool or spa is published. Canad Inns runs a pool-and-waterslide brand at several of its Winnipeg hotels; this is not one of them. If the children want water, look elsewhere.
- Rooms are described, not shown. The booking engine names four room types and gives no sizes. AAA's inspector calls them "modest" with "updated bathrooms". That is fair to quote and fair to plan around.
- It is not downtown. Transcona sits about 10 km east of the centre, according to Wikipedia. The Forks, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the downtown arenas are a drive or a bus ride away, not a stroll.
- The casino sets the evening's soundtrack. If you want a quiet, non-gaming weekend, the building's centre of gravity is not on your side. Ask the desk for a room away from the busiest connections.

The longer thought
When I read the hotel's own copy — "Stay Where the Excitement Never Stops" — I understood what it wanted to be and what it is. It is a place to sleep between the restaurant and the stage. That is a perfectly good thing to be in Winnipeg, where the walk from the car to the door can be the hardest part of an evening for five months of the year.
In July the argument shifts. The building's advantages are less urgent, and its distance from the river and the centre counts for more. I would still use it in summer as an east-side base for Birds Hill or a concert night, but I would not pick it for a first look at the city.
If you want to try it, ask our desk for a room; we'll tell you what the hotel has for your dates before you commit to anything. If you'd rather book direct, the official hotel page has a Book Now link.
