Packing for January, from the climate normals up

Bring what the numbers say you'll need for the hours outside; the building handles the rest.

Illustration, not a photograph of the hotel

A packing list should start with the forecast and the plan. For Winnipeg in January, the long-run figures Wikipedia cites are a mean around −16.4 °C, the occasional plunge below −40, and about twelve days a year with wind chill below −40. For a stay at Club Regent, the plan is mostly indoors. Both facts shape the bag.

For the hours outside

  • A proper winter coat — insulated, windproof, long enough to cover your hips.
  • A hat that covers your ears, a scarf or neck gaiter, and mitts rather than thin gloves.
  • Boots with grip. Parking lots and sidewalks freeze unevenly; the skywalk is the only part of the route you can trust in dress shoes.
  • Skates or rentals if you plan the Nestaweya River Trail or the canopied rink at The Forks.
  • A thermos for the drive. Lagimodière and the Perimeter are fast roads, but delays happen.

For the car

  • A snow brush and scraper, even if you'll park under cover — the outdoor overflow lot is real.
  • A blanket and a charged phone. It's common sense on prairie highways in winter.
  • Whether you need a block-heater cord: ask the desk whether the parkade has plug-ins. It isn't published.

What you can leave at home

  • A swimsuit. No pool or spa is published for this hotel.
  • A hair dryer and a kettle, probably — AAA lists a coffeemaker in the rooms; ask about a dryer if it matters.
  • A second pair of boots for the show. The route from your room to your seat is indoors.

For the show and the casino side

  • Your ticket — bought from the box office or Ticketmaster.
  • Original photo ID if you're over 18 and plan to enter the casino. Photocopies and phone photos are refused.
  • A small bag: since February 2026 the casino limits bags to 14″ × 14″ × 6″.

A thought on layering

The building is heated; outside is not. You'll be moving between the two. Layers you can take off — a fleece under the coat, a light sweater over a shirt — matter more than one heavy garment. I learned that rule from prairie winters in general, not from this hotel, but it applies here twice over.

Planning a night on Regent Avenue?

Tell the desk your dates and it will come back with what the hotel has open and what it costs that week — by email, usually within a business day. You decide after that; there is no deposit and no card number on this site.

When a request turns into a stay, the hotel or the booking partner pays us a commission; your rate is the same. Our business model · full request page

Our booking desk checks availability with the hotel or a booking partner and answers by email. This is a request, not a reservation.

No card is asked for and nothing is reserved yet. If the stay goes ahead, the hotel or a booking partner pays this site a commission — you pay the hotel's own rate. How that works.

Thank you — your request reached the desk. Expect an email reply (usually within a business day) with what the hotel has for your dates and the current rate. Nothing is booked until you confirm.
