1 King Room

If you are two people and you don't specify anything, the 1 King Room is probably what you'll be offered. It's the booking engine's second line and the room most of AAA's description seems to picture: "comfortable bedding, a large flat-screen TV, a work desk, and updated bathrooms with spacious vanities and tub/shower combinations."

The show-night couple

This is the room I'd book for a single evening at the Event Centre. Doors for most shows are at 6 pm or 7 pm; Aaltos serves until 9 pm and its Thursday-to-Sunday dinner buffets run from 5 to 8 pm. Eat at five, check in, walk to the hall, and the evening has no car in it at all.

After the show the casino's bars keep later hours than the restaurant: Coors Centre Bar runs until 1 am on weeknights and 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The casino floor and those bars are 18+.

The working traveller

The desk, the wireless internet and the coffeemaker make it a reasonable work room. It is not a business hotel in the downtown sense — there's no business centre in any source I found — but for a conference in the Event Centre or a meeting in the Jags Event Space, a king room next door beats a commute.

Questions for the desk

• Is a king room available with a roll-in shower?
• Can the room be away from the elevator bank?
• Is early check-in possible on a show day? AAA lists check-in at 4 pm, which is close to some doors times.

Winter and summer

In January the bathtub is the amenity. In July, it's the curtains: the evening light is long and you may want darkness before 10 pm. Neither is guaranteed by any published source, so ask.
